A small change you may have noticed....
In Chapter 2 I identified the old Rasheen man as the Edictator and the Olgothian woman as the Farseer. After I came up with the idea for these chapters I felt it was better to switch their roles. The posted copy of chapter 2 is therefor incorrect, however, I am in the process of rewriting most of Chapter 1 to take in changes to the plot introduced with "Kyle's Tale" and when I repost the edited Prolouge and Chapter 1, I will also repost the corrected Chapter 2

A Change of Structure
I haven't made a lot of updates to this journal recently, but I *have* been working on the Beregoth story in my spare time. However, it's becoming hard to organize the bits and pieces I have written by standard chapters. I feel like i am jumping around too much. So from here on out, I will post story segements as they are written, but flag them according to which of the three main sotry arcs they are attached to.

The three story arcs as they stand right now are:

West Hold - The seige of West Hold, Garret Cain and his plan, Tav, Adere and Kyle

Sunblades - Norhamn Harbind, Van Simons, Edgar and the Sunblades/Order to the south

Shinreal and Sivand - Shinreal and Sivand traveling south and east in search of Alaster

Lately I have been concentrating mainly on West Hold, specifically the part of that story concerning Garret Cain. The stuff I have written for that particular arc is a lot darker and more violent than anything I have ever written before (I blame this on all the Stephen King I have been reading lately), but I was really trying to get across just how twisted Cain is and how evil the forces he is dealing with are. So, if you are squeamish, prudish, or otherwise easily offended, you might not care to read the story arcs concerning Cain and skip on to happier stuff later on (say when I get back to Shinreal and Sivand...)

I'll post the parts that are written after I do bit more editing.

Elvish Primer
Tolkien I'm not, but I couldn't resist giving the elves of my world their own bizzare language. Also, I used the oportunity to throw out some cultural notes as well, although I'll probably have to write something more definative later.

A Brief Digression
Chapter 9 is in the works, but in the meantime, I think I will put up some of my world notes. The following little snippet is something I wrote to keep my pantheon internally consistant. I have similar douments for things like Elvish Language and Customs, Dwarven Society, and the Mercenary Guild structure. Some of this information has already been infered our outright stated in the story, but I guess it couldn't hurt to show it to all of you. There aren't any spoilers or anything...so anyway...

Chapter 5: An EscapeCollapse )

I ran the next three chapters through the spell checker at work today, so there should be less of the annoying spelling errors.

Prologue: The DuelCollapse )

Some notes: Internet HTML formating makes it impossible for me to display the text as it would normally appear on a page (i.e. indented paragraphs, single spaced) so it looks somewhat disjointed. Those of you used to reading internet fanfiction will be untroubled by this, for the rest, I apologize. Until I have my own website with the right java applets, this is the best I can do. Spaces between text indicate paragraph breaks.

Welcome!
I have set up this community in order to post up short fiction I have written from my series: "Beregoth". I started writing thiese chapters almost 5 years ago, and it has been almost 10 years since the characters and setting were originally concieved. It has undergone a lot of changes, and since my skill as a writer has improved since I first started, earlier chapters are undergoing heavy revision.

So, this is where I am placing them for peer review. I only ask three things when I post something here and you feel compelled to reply:

1) Be constructive. I am trying to better myself as a writer by doing this. What I am looking for are opinions on characterization, plot, setting, pacing or any other story element that you may like, dislike or care to comment on. I won't begrudge the ocassional grammar fix, but really, that's what editors are for...

2) Be honest. If you think it stinks, let me know! Tell me why it stinks, and I can use that when considering new changes or modifications to the story. This is not up here as a vanity. I am truely looking for honest opinions.

3) Don't steal. I am working on a role-playing conversion of this world that will be free to everyone to do with as they please, but the setting, characters, and other aspects of Beregoth are creations of my own imagination and those of the freinds who played the original characters years ago. Please respect that and ask for permission before using anything here in your own work.

My goal is to forge this story into something that fantasy fans everywhere can enjoy, so please help me out with constructive, honest feedback so that I can improve it!

Enjoy!
